ODROID C2 IS HERE

my goal for this work:

The NEXT ONE PLEASE... ODROID C2 is here.
It uses a the new ARMv8 64 bit system and has more power vs
the  new Raspberry Pi3.

The ODROID C2 Quad Core ARMv8-64Bit (4x2.0GHz).


20. March 2016:

The new UBUNTU 16.04 (64Bit) with MATE Desktop is on the way.
I made a first test with compiling WSJTX 1.7.0r6541 on ARMv8-64Bit
plattform and it works with very low CPU load and fast decoding.

In UBUNTU 16.04 there are also precompiled packages of GNURADIO 3.7.9 and GQRX.
So lets try out the RTL-SDR spectrumanalyzer with GNURADIO.
It works fast and with low CPU load.

21. March 2016:

Now a second test with RTL-SDR(tcxo) and converter, GQRX
and WSJTX 1.7.0r6541 at the same time.
WOW ! ... all is running well and the decodes are nice.
Virtual audio loop is made via the PULSEAUDIO SERVER from
GQRX audio out to the WSJTx audio input.

AIRSPY r2 and SPYVERTER are the new toys to play with.
Because of the good specification low noise TCXO and 12 bit A/D converter a good
candidate to try especially WSJTx and other weak signal modes.
AND
Maybe also possible to make a WIDEBAND SPECTRUM DISPLAY with upto
10 MHz bandwidth
?
So lets see what the ODROID C2 can DO ?

Note:

In the 10MSPS mode it is not possible to use the demodulation function of GQRX because of
datalosses. So maybe there is some space for future optimizations?

update: 5.May 2016
The gnuradio RTL-SDR analyzer was modified for the airspy. It is working also with 10MSPS.

and in waterfall mode:


an other test with GQRX (recompiled today the last version 2.5.3-27)
  AIRSPY and Odroid C2 are useable as a realtime spectrumanalyzer with 10MHz bandwidth and
  upto 50 frames per second with 16384 FFT-points but the CPU-load is heavy.
CPU temperature rises upto to 87 degrees celsius.

update: 6.October 2016 
The development progress is going forward. I got running 2 instances of WSJTx 1.7-rc1 on the Odroid C2.
One instance using GQRX and RTL-SDR(tcxo) as RX frontend. The other signal is fed via external
USB soundcard from a conventional radio.

A new version of GQRX (v2.6) and WSJTx is out and could be compiled under ARMv8.

update: 10.October 2016
I compiled the last version of fldigi (3.23.14) and let run 3 instances for decoding PSK31,PSK63 and PSK125 at the same time.
RX hardware is RTL-SDR(tcxo) and SDR-frontend is GQRX (v2.6). It looks the Odroid C2 has no problem with this.

special note on the Odroid C2:
ARMv8 on LINUX is a relatively new plattform and has some problems until now.
So it will need some time to get the systems running stable.
But the first sight looks very positive.
